Freezing Asparagus - Farm Girl Fresh

Freezing Asparagus

I had some help freezing asparagus over the weekend. We enjoy frozen asparagus throughout the winter in soups or steamed as a side dish. Check out pages 40 & 41 in our book “Eating Pure in a Processed Foods World” for tips on freezing asparagus and our delicious Cream of Asparagus Soup recipe.

Freezing Asparagus

Select young tender asparagus, wash and sort.⠀ Trim bottom of stalk and snap into even spear lengths.⠀

Blanch in boiling water.⠀

Drain off hot water and dip in ice water, drain and cool.

A salad spinner works well for this.

Looking to save some money on your monthly grocery bill? Purchase asparagus when it is in season and freeze for use during the winter months.
