My oldest son celebrated his birthday recently and I wanted a fun, but healthy, treat for him to bring to preschool to share with his friends. I’m not a fan of sugary birthday treats, and I know some of his classmates have food sensitivities, so we decided to make fruit kabobs! They are so simple to prepare, yet different and fun.
The day before his birthday, we went on a special “grocery store date” to pick out the fruit. I washed and cut all the fruit and put them in separate bowls to make assembly easy. We used grapes, strawberries, apples, blackberries, and kiwi.
I envisioned my son and I having a special time making them together, but of course, the younger brothers didn’t want to miss out on helping! Their proportions and patterns of fruit were a little different than mine, but I don’t think the 4 & 5 year old preschool friends noticed. (Except for maybe the all grape one made by my 2 year old!)
