As we’ve been out and about going to different Farmers’ Markets this summer, it reminds us of the importance of asking questions and getting to know the grower you are buying produce from.
There are so many terms used these days (natural, organic, hydroponic, grass-fed, pasture-raised, free-range, etc.) it can become confusing and hard to know the correct meaning of them. We found an excellent article that will help you understand all these terms and know the right questions to ask at the farmers market. The Cornucopia Institute also has a condensed version that’s a handy Do-It-Yourself Pocket Guide to Non-Certified “Organic” Food.
We encourage you to visit your local farmers market and ask questions as you enjoy building a relationship with the grower who works hard to create healthy food for you.
