“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” Deuteronomy 6:4-7 (ESV)
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Romans 10:17 (ESV)
One of the main inspirations for writing our book, Eating Pure in a Processed Foods World®, was a strong desire for our grandchildren to experience a healthy lifestyle. And that includes their spiritual well-being along with their emotional and physical health. The Bible says we are to teach its Truth diligently to our children, in all we do and at all times. What a privilege it is to spend time with our grandchildren and be able to come alongside their parents in this teaching.
Two of the favorite activities our grandchildren enjoy is reading books or playing interactive games. I love it when they ask to “cuddle up” and read a good book – especially when they come with the Jesus Storybook Bible in hand. It’s easy to understand and each story from Genesis to Revelation talks about God’s unending love for us and His plan for redeeming us from our sins. (Plus the pictures are bright and colorful creating a beautiful visual.)
Last week we got out our Resurrection Eggs and started talking about God’s great love for us and how he sent his son, Jesus Christ, to save us from our sins and give us eternal life. Our grandchildren love playing with the eggs and hearing the Jesus story relating to the object that is hidden inside each egg.
Every time we read the Bible or play with the resurrection eggs, it is an opportunity to share the Gospel – the good news of Jesus Christ. And that’s what this earthly life is all about. As we read God’s word, hear God’s word and experience His love, our hearts become transformed – God gives us a new heart. We feel our need to repent and give complete control of our lives to God. Our faith and trust in God begins to grow and deepen through the years of life’s experiences. I pray our grandchildren will love the Lord our God with all their heart, soul and might and their faith will be rooted deep in God’s Word.
