Have you noticed how many of the plastic containers are now labeled BPA-free? Many manufacturers are no longer making plastics with bisphenol-A which has been a controversial chemical linked to possible health risks. Knowing this, is reason enough for me to move to glass storage containers and not risk my food being contaminated by a possible harmful chemical.
I am guessing if you are like me, you have a cupboard drawer full of plastic storage containers for leftovers. A couple of years ago, I cleaned out all my plastic containers and replaced them with several different sizes of glass containers like the Pyrex Simply Store 6-Piece Rectangular Glass Food Storage Set.
I have discovered these containers are more airtight and my food seems to stay fresher longer. Some other bonuses that come with using glass is that they are oven-safe, dishwasher safe, odor resistant and they can be stored in the freezer. Another glass storage option is canning jars. They work great for storing leftover soup, broth and dried fruit.
