Vitamin D - Farm Girl Fresh

Vitamin D

Is there anyone else like me who would like to strengthen their immune system? One question we need to ask ourselves is, “Are we getting enough of the “Sunshine Vitamin” – Vitamin D? I love the change of seasons, but I am already not liking the shorter days and less sunshine we are experiencing as we head into fall. With less time spent outdoors soaking up the sunshine, I realize it’s time to start taking my Vitamin D once again.

Vitamin D is an essential vitamin for your health. Vitamin D helps boost our immune system and is vital for our bones, muscles and teeth. If you live in the northern hemisphere you might be at risk of a Vitamin D deficiency. A good way to check your “D” levels is with a simple blood test.

I look for a natural Vitamin D3 or Cholecalciferol, not a synthetic (D2). A daily dose of Vitamin D will help boost your immune system to ward off the dreaded cold and flu bug.

You can also get your Vitamin D through food by including more fish, eggs, mushrooms and liver in your diet. Try our Salmon Loaf, Tuna Salad Wraps (page 197) or one of our Egg Bakes (page 97 and 185 adding shiitake mushrooms) for a little added “sunshine” to your day!
